Fine Art Platinum Printing

The platinum print
— monochrome beauty —

Platinum Prints are based on a photographic printing method from the 19th century. This process creates the most stunning and archival black and white photographs.

Archivability

they belong to the most archival photographic printing processes made by men. The platinum particles inside the fibers of the paper don’t tend to decay ore corrode when exposed to sunlight such as normal color pigments or even other metals do.
A platinum print will live as long as the paper exists on which the print is made on. The premium papers wich are typically used in platinum printing are prone to survive many thousands of years, when taking good care of.
Such impressive properties in the archivability is one the reasons why especially collectors, galleries and museums are so intrigued by these prints.

we do print your work in actual platinum!

Crafting a platinum print

Before developing the print, every single sheet of paper will be hand coated with the individually mixed platinum emulsion. This leads to the typical brushstrokes around the edges of the print.
The Process of crafting a high quality platinum print requires much time and know-how.

From digital to analog

Using digital workflows allows to print the digital file of your image as a platinum print. There is no need for old school film negatives anymore. This is mainly an advantage because as a contact printing method platinum printing dictates that the final print can only be as big as the negative used for the exposure of the print. Printing our own digital negatives allows to vary the size of the prints and to include digital manipulation of the photographs beforehand, to create the perfect negatives for our needs.
For the modern day platinum print it doesn’t matter whether to use digitale files from your digital camera, digital scans of your photographic films, or even photographs from your smartphone. But still for platinum printing it is true, that better files always make better prints.

The Impressions you’ll get from platinum prints are unlike the ones you’ll get from any other printing method. The ability of recording twice as many grayscales as a normal black and white silver print, as well as the soft but rich rendering of black tones, create the subtle beauty only known from platinum prints.
The fact, that every print is made of tiny platinum particles wich absorbs the light and reflects them from within the fibers of the paper causes the unique way platinum prints give the impression as they shine by themselves.

The platinum print creates a unique and exiting atmosphere.

Platinum prints are made on traditionally crafted high quality cotton fiber papers. Unlike other printing techniques the actual photograph doesn’t sit on top of a reflective surface on the paper but is worked deep inside the fibers of the high quality papers. It is for this that platinum prints in some cases can create a kind of three dimensional like depth to the actual appearance of your photographs.
The typical matt finish of a platinum print creates this very pure and honest aesthetic experience that is unlike any other printing method.

It is for the unique aesthetic experience, the sheer quality, the durability and archivebility of the platinum print, that photographers, collectors, galleries as well as museums are so fascinated by. This is why there is a significant rise in popularity and demand.
